Supta Padangustasana

Reclining Big Toe Pose

In today’s post we would have a look at a very wonderful stretch that would be very beneficial for our health. This is a post that many athlete do in their daily work out, many who follow Pilate's do this post too. The name of the pose is Supta Padangustasana.

The word “Supta” means lying down, while “Pad “means foot and the word “angusta” means big toe. Thus the name of the pose in English is “Reclining Big Toe Pose”.

How to do this pose?

1] Lie flat on the mat on the back. Keep both the legs straight and stretch on the ground, with both knees straight too.
2] Slowly as you inhale raise the left leg from the floor so that it becomes perpendicular to the floor. Keep the right leg stretched.
3] Now raise the left arm so that one could catch the left big toe. As one hold the toe keep the pose for 2-3 breaths.
4] Now slowly exhale and raise the head and the trunk as one bends the left arm at the elbow bringing the left leg closer towards the head. Now pull the leg down and raise the head so that the chin could rest on the left knee joint. Stay in this pose for some time.
5] Slowly move the head back to the floor and the left leg back. Now start the same on the other side.

1] Understand that both the legs and the arms should be stretched and be straight during the whole pose until asking for.
2] Those who suffer with hypertension should be careful with this pose.
3] Those who suffer with diarrhoea and headaches should avoid doing this pose.

1] A great pose for those who suffer with sciatica and paralysis of the legs.
2] The pose would help to increase the blood flow to the leg and the hips thus rejuvenating them.
3] Great pose for those who bike or walk or hike a lot to relax the legs.
4] This pose also prevents hernia if done on a regular basis.
5] Stimulates the prostate gland.

This pose is great for Throat Chakra.
