Introduction To Probiotics

In today’s post I present to you Evan ex-research physicist on alternative energy who loves her Probiotics. Her love on the subject is reflected on her website. In this article she introduce us about Probiotics, it’s uses and their side effects.

Probiotics are microorganisms, usually bacteria, which are healthy for the host organism and are similar to the microorganisms found in the human gut. When administered in sufficient amounts, they provide a health benefit to the host. Lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria are the most common microbes that are used as probiotics. However, there are numerous other strains that can prove beneficial to treating, managing, and preventing certain diseases.

How Probiotics Work ?

Probiotics work primarily in the gastrointestinal tract. Human beings have a large amount of bacterial microbes inside the body, mainly the mouth, gastrointestinal tract, and the vaginal tract. One of the main goals of probiotic bacteria is to make a barrier that prevents the multiplication of viruses and bacteria within the body. Probiotics also have other functions as well:

1)    Breaking down food for digestion
2)    Produce the lactase enzyme which helps break down milk and sugar
3)    Producing vitamins essential in the in the intestinal tract
4)    Altering the acidic environment within the intestine to make the condition less desirable to potentially harmful organisms.

What Probiotics Treat?

While the scientific understanding of probiotics and how well they treat and prevent health conditions is still in its early stages, the studies done have provided us with some information on what conditions they treat. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), the evidence for probiotic treatment is beneficial in the following ways:

•    The treatment of diarrhea
•    The prevention and treatment in the female genital tract and the male urinary tract
•    The reduction of the reoccurrence of bladder cancer
•    The prevention and management of eczema in children
•     The treatment of irritable bowel syndrome
•    Shortening the duration of an intestinal infection caused by a bacterium called Clostridium difficile.
•     The treatment and prevention of pouchitis

Other Areas of Treatment:

There are other health conditions that probiotics are known to treat. These include the following:
•    The management of lactose intolerance
•    Lowering cholesterol
•    Lowering blood pressure
•    The prevention of colon cancer
•    The improvement of mineral absorption
•    The improvement of the immune system

Where Can You Buy Probiotics ?

Probiotics are over the counter and can be purchased in just about any health food store location.

Side Effects of Probiotics :

As with any sort of treatment, there are probiotic side effects They are known to occur and the safety has not been thoroughly studied scientifically. Typical side effects of probiotic use tend to be mild and digestive such as gas and/or bloating. However very rarely there have been more serious effects of probiotic use such as infections that need to be treated by antibiotics.

In conclusion, probiotics have a number of substantial benefits. They have been scientifically proven to treat and prevent numerous diseases, and more studies further proving their efficacy are likely forthcoming. The side effects of using this treatment are very mild, especially when compared to the side effects of many prescription medications.

Staying in Canada one hardly do enjoy the rainy season as it  rains any time of the year. Many countries in Asia Africa especially in the tropics do face one of the crazy season especially during the months of July August called as Rainy Season or the Monsoon. The rain just pours which does disturb the overall environment and also the overall health of an individual. How to keep one healthy during such days? Here are some valuable tips....

1] Eat only when hungry:
As it can be said for the summer season so is true for the rainy season that one’s appetite would be still be low for this season too. It is thus very important to eat only as one get hungry rather than eating your every meal. This is a season also where one can eat a slight amount of oily food like different local preparations like bhajis being common.

2] Spice up:
Low on appetite it remains quiet hard for our body to digest all that we have eaten. Thus it is very important to spice up the food you intake. Black pepper, Ginger, Garlic is some of the spice that only increases your appetite but also help digestion. Added benefit of all those kitchen spices would be that they protect one from different seasonal illness like cough and viral flu commonly seen during rainy season.

3] Reduce your Water intake:
As rainy season starts in ancient India one do celebrate a day called as “Nirjala ekadashi” which means that one hardly drink a sip of water for the whole day. Water by itself during these days is very muddy in some cases due to excess rain. But the real reason for drinking less water remains in actual physiology of the body which hardly craves any water during this days. Boiled water would be preferred for sure.

4] Have some Honey every day:
Ayurveda speaks of having a spoonful of honey for health benefit during rainy days. The main reason for having honey is basically to keep its role in Ayurveda to balance the vatta which is known to aggravate during rainy season. Not just that but because of less appetite one is known to produce lot of undigested food or ama which is said to be digested by the intake of honey.

5] Stay dry:
After the warm summer it is very hard to remain dry in such nice rainy season. But after the initial fun it is very important to stay dry as much as possible. After walking through the rain dry clothes are must as the moistness in the clothes does increase a tendency for many fungal skin diseases. The season is also known for viral infections like cold, cough and staying dry is just one of the things to do.

3 Reasons Why Pilates Will Improve Your Yoga Practice

“Today again I bring forward for you another guest blogger who not just love to write but also follow all what he writes. Kian a personal pilates trainer writes today about how one can help their yoga practise with help of Pilates. Hope you enjoy this article”.

Often times Yoga and Pilates are spoken in the same breath. I’ve found that whenever I incorporate Yoga into my Pilates plans I see massive benefits, and have seen my clients who are primarily Yogi’s see improvement when they start adding in Pilates. Here are the top 3 reasons why any Yogi should start adding in Pilates.

1. Increased core strength and postural alignment:

The main calling card of Pilates is “Core Strength” and while many poses in Yoga involve using the abdominal and other muscles central to core strength and stability the emphasis the Pilates places on the actions of the abdominal can give you the extra edge to make the transition to a pose that has been difficult in the past. Pilates movements have also contributed to a decrease in back pain due to improved abdominal strength.

It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, sitting, standing, or lying down, core strength and posture play key rolls. As a competitive athlete I had some massive postural and joint issues, and once I started doing Pilates I noticed that I improved my posture, decreased pain, and improved performance. Every well-designed Pilates program will have posture at its center, because the goal of Pilates is to improve your function in every day activities.

2. Joint stabilization and varied resistance:

Like I mentioned above I hurt myself a lot during competition. Shoulders, wrist, knees, I’ve hurt them all, and the restorative movements in Pilates that specifically target injury and stability for the joints helped bring me back to a place where I could compete. Even if you’re injury free, the same movements can help prevent future injuries.

There’s also a level of progressive resistance with Pilates that’s sometimes unavailable in Yoga. Pilates incorporates springs, bands, and other larger pieces of equipment in some classes that can provide you with resistance other than your body weight. This can make the movements easier so that you can make progress, or much harder to challenge yourself. Either way the movements will both challenge, and help to rejuvenate your joint structures.

3. Improved endurance and muscle tone:

In a lot of Pilates classes there will be a relentless flow of core exercises. It’s not that Pilate’s instructors are cruel people, but that Pilates wants to mimic the daily postural onslaught that we face every day. The back-to-back core exercises are meant to increase your body’s ability to deal with the pull of gravity and postural demands of daily life. If you enjoy any other activates, from yoga, running, rock climbing, walking, or weight lifting, you’ll notice that after a few weeks of Pilates you’ll be able to go longer and harder.

This increase in endurance also translates over to an aesthetic appeal. With improved endurance your muscles are going to develop a more toned appearance. I know that most of us practice fitness for our health, but looking better is always a nice side effect. Even if your primary goal is just to look good, mixing up your workouts is one of the fastest ways to get there.

Here’s a simple exercise that you can start incorporating into your daily routine,

The Amazing Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee

“Today let me introduce you to Bethany North who would love to introduce you in the article some of the amazing benefits of Coffee. Well Have fun reading this article Ohh do not forget the coffee!!!”

Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee
What you may be surprised to know as a coffee drinker is that you are actually enjoying serious health benefits with every sip of your daily cup of Joe! Research has proved more and more health benefits relating to coffee, encompassing a long list of wellness and disease preventative payoffs from enjoying coffee regularly.

  1. Diabetes: First of all, coffee has been proven to reduce the risk of diabetes by up to 60%. The reason for this is that coffee is full of antioxidants, which improve how the body responds to insulin. Speaking of antioxidants, coffee also uses these antioxidants to neutralize free radical damage within your body, which can prevent premature wrinkling, disease, and severe damage over time.

  1. Dementia: Regular coffee drinking has also been proven to reduce the risk of dementia by 65% due to the fact that coffee blocks the damage of cholesterol within the body. Similarly, coffee will also reduce the risk for Alzheimer's disease by 65%, and a study done in Finland showed that 5 cups of coffee consumed on a daily basis reduce the risk of this disease by over half.

  1. Cirrhosis of the Liver: As far as the liver goes, coffee has also been proven to reduce the risk of cirrhosis of the liver by 80%. A study was done on 125,000 coffee drinkers where they consumed 1 cup of coffee on a daily basis, which reduced the risk of cirrhosis of the liver caused by alcohol by 20%. When they increased this amount to 4 cups each day, their risk was reduced by an astounding 80%!

  1. Gallstones: Studies have also shown that men that regularly drink coffee have a reduced risk of gallstones by 50%. Men who consumed 2 cups of coffee on a daily basis reduced this risk by 40%, with women at 25%. Those within the study that drank more than 4 cups of coffee each day had a reduced risk of 45%.
As you can see, the health benefits that coffee provides grow exponentially the more that is consumed. This does need be qualified with the fact that health professionals recommend drinking 2 to 3 cups of coffee on a daily basis, and any more may cause an overdose of caffeine with side effects that include anxiety, jitteriness, and insomnia. Otherwise, enjoy coffee liberally to drink to your health!

Parsvaika Pada Sarvangasana

We move now to yet another variation of Salmaba Sarvanagasana. Well I am sure this is that easy but I would say doable if you give it a try. In today’s post we would have a look on how to do “Parsvaika Pada Sarvangasana”

The word “Parsva” as we have seen in yoga many times means lateral or sideways. As one leg in this pose is twisted to the side this pose is thus named as “Parsvaika Pada Sarvanagasana” or One Leg Lateral Shoulder Stand.

How to Do this pose?
1] To perform this pose we would come to the point where we are in Shoulder Stand. Our pose currently is in shoulder stand where our both legs are vertically upwards; our hands support our lower trunk.
2] Now we slowly bring down our right leg sideways to the floor. Do not worry if does not touches the floor on the first instance. Bring it down as far as you can.
3] Make sure the left leg is straight during the whole time.
4] Remain in that pose for a while and bring it back and repeat it with the left leg on the side.

All the cautions are similar for those that mentioned in Salamba Sarvangasana and Eka Pada Sarvangasana.

1] This pose is said to relieve constipation due to the contraction given to abdomen.
2] This pose also tones the kidneys.

Chakra Effect:
This pose is great for Throat Chakra.
