Virbhadrasana -2



Warrior Pose -2

Last week we saw the warrior pose-1 , if you have been practicing it for a while you while enjoy the benefits of it by now . Here we are with another slight variation of the same pose named as "Virbhardrasna -2" or "Warrior pose -2"

How to do it ?

1] "Samasthiti "would be the pose we start any standing exercise .
2] Taking a deep breath we slowly bring our right leg apart from our left leg at least 4 feet from each other and with extended arms .
3] Turn our right foot to the side and also a little bit of the left foot .So is our face looking towards the right side.
4] Slowly bend it right knee so that the thigh is parallel to the floor , while it forms a right angle .
Make sure the spine is still straight .
5] As you take this position your eyes are fixed on your rt fingers stretched arms and bend knees.
6] Stay in this position for at least 20 to 30 sec . Inhaling and exhaling out . In good spirit with regular practice you can go up to 2 to 3 min in this position .
7] To come back from this stage , bring your right foot back to the straight line and our face being in the front.
8] Repeat it again on the other side the same way .


Caution:

1] Try not to bend the opposite knee joint .Say for example we are working on the right side , please keep the other knee joint straight if possible locked .
2] To maintain balance it is must to be concentrate on the tips of the fingers and keeping the spine straight and erect .
3] Be gentle in any forms you take in yoga , even though they are too simple to do .

Effects :

1] Builds the muscles of the thighs , calf muscle .
2] Tones this muscles too.
3] Prepares our body for all the advance exercise .

Chakra effect :

This asana works on the Muladhara Chakara or the Base Chakra.

Why should I Fast Today ?



Yesterday we had a big send off to one of my friends... thus it was a late night party after office hours. Parties likes this always bothers me, it not for the actual moment .It is the after effect that always takes a crazy turn. We are humans and thus tend to indulge in certain foods which are exotic, junk or just too rich normally not that good for your stomach .This leads to some crazy moments after wards. I always think how can I indulge and enjoy .Here is how I do it.
"Fast” simple ... I fast the next day of such crazy times. It works and it has help...wait, wait... I am not speaking of crazy fasting ... I am speaking of simple fasting. I just eat light meal of vegetables and rice and some dal or lentils for lunch and just drink lots of hot water during the day. And it helps. Why should I do this here are my 5 reasons why it is good in this situation.

1] To Rest my stomach:

First and foremost why too fast... isn’t it necessary that you rest your stomach ...well we work every day , and then rest in the night then why cannot we give that rest for our digestive system too . It has been working every day breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Right then the best way you can think of resting that stomach is to fast or at least eat only may be one meal out of three. Parties like yesterday definitely work badly on our stomach, well to keep your stomach healthy give small rest to it by fasting.

2] Old junk removal:

Your mom has not cooked for a day, what we are going to do, look in to the fridge may be clean the fridge with what is left over right. Well yesterday I ate a lot of junk food or food which I was suppose to not to eat or not in extra ordinary portion... well what to do then to digest this food simple fast .What happens then is easy to understand our body looking for energy would start looking for food and then digest all the extra food that is stored in our intestine in due course of time thus its like looking for reserve food around right.

3] Toxic waste removal system:

Last night junk is definitely what I would like to eat every day; I know it .It just for the temptation that I do feel that I should indulge in. Yes but if I did a mistake, I should also know how to solve it right and take the responsibility. That all junk in body by now would have created a lot of toxin and what is the best way to do remove it. You got it right fasting. As discussed before that if we fast our body is going to search for food right ... and not just in our abdomen , it would search for whatever it has all over even in our small cells . Thus all those toxic waste which is settled in our smallest area of the body.

4] Energies our self:

Defiantly now I feel lethargic as hell, I am tired, thought slept well, I am feeling my muscles are paining. All here are the signs of undigested food because of yesterday's indulgence. But what is fasting going to do to all this.
Because of the earlier discuss properties of digesting all the waste products even at the cellular level. I am sure I am going to feel different. Lightness is what i am searching to be frank. I need to feel light, with lots of energy and yes Fasting is going to give me that for sure. It’s the feeling of emptiness that would make me happy and vigorous again.


5] To eat more junk some times later :

We are humans accept it, and its human to err.... So yes once in a while we are going to indulge in fast food or junk or something wrong.We could not be a robot just eating the same blend food all the time and yes we are and we should intake some bad food from time to time to let our immune system also understand the difference between bad and good . And we do what is the best way to throw it , you go it Fasting what else ,would help me .

Note of caution :
1] Fasting is not recommended everyday of one's life.
2] Please have a talk with your doctor or Naturopath or Vaidya before going on any health fasting .
3] This are just my thoughts what I intend to do , does not mean would apply for all and help them .At your own risk

Exercise and some Recent facts in Canada !!



Here is a graph which shows the number of individuals preferring different activities in their spare time during the months of summer in Canada .Going to gym is loved by 26% of people , while two outdoor activities are head to head for the second and third spot namely Cycling and Swimming for around 19%.All the other sports are so back in the graph just giving 2 to 5% .It means even in the nice hot months of summer most Canadians love being indoor and work in the gym and not go outside to play .

It’s been a while since I started taking online survey’s in the early days it was more for sheer fun and slowly and slowly it has been a way to understand certain life style details of individuals .I started enjoying certain as they send us detail results of such surveys too . Net panel group has been one such group. The survey of outdoor activities was send by them and here were the results in front of you

I think so it worries me and also makes me thing why? Why do so many amounts of individuals love to be indoor even in the summer for their activities why? Is it the nice cool refreshing atmosphere that appeals them or is it the advantage of being near to one’s offices makes them to think of going to gym?

Another thing with Net panel surveys are they are age related so if they are send to me , it means this data was recorded pretty much for the age between 25 to 35 or 45 may be not sure .

I was so sure that many in Canada would say Golf, or swimming or cycling.. Gym was the least I think so people would be tend up doing.. But the results proved me wrong.

I have been staying in Canada now for over 4 years almost, and I started knowing the weather well... it is cold , freezing at least 6 to 8 months in some parts ... and the only few months we get of summer is half with rain and yucky weather . So to be frank we should be lucky to get some nice weather here...

Friends I do not have any thing in regards to any Gym ... but yes we can think of the gym during the cool winters.. But at least when it’s nice and warm please look out for some nice sunny sports like Golf, swimming, running, walking.

Is it the worry of the crazy U-V rays bothering us Canadians or is it just that we like being the cold as the gym offers the nice cool A/C all the time. What is it? Please feel free and if you have any thoughts let me know.

Virbhadarasana-1


The Warrior Pose -1

Asanas have been named by different way... some by the position it reflects in real life, some by its moods. Today‘s position and the next week asana are more likely to be known because of the mood’s to name it. "The Warrior's Pose " or "Virbhadrasana " has been named due to its mood of the position taken rather than anything else .
In mythology Lord Shiva to fight against the evil omens gave birth from his lock of hairs to hero named "Virbhadra " who with his ferocious army destroyed the demons .With very few variation warrior pose is done two ways .Today we would discuss the first way and next week the other part. Both this asana are dedicated to him for his strength.

How to do this position:


1] Start in “Samasthiti”
2] Inhale in and slowly lift both your arms up , palms touching to each other. They should be place in such a way that the ears are touching on the inner sides of the arms .
3] Exhale out and wait for a moment or two.
4] Inhale again and then and keep your right leg side way to the right side. Turn your torso facing the right side now while exhaling.
5] Now slowly flex the right knee till the right thigh is parallel to the floor.
6] Stretch the left leg and tighten the left knee.
7] Extend your neck a little bit on the back.
8] Checking your position now, neck extended backward. Arms up, face looking towards the finger tips ,spine straight , one leg flexed , other knee joint tighten.
9] Hold the pose for some time with inhalation and exhalation going on.
10] Repeat it for the other side too now.

Word of Caution:


This pose is not for weak heart person, so people who have blood pressure, heart problem, pregnant women and young kids can skip this position all together.
Be comfortable with the flexing of the knee joint .Would not happen on the first shot , so relax and slow and slow work on the position and you will get it right .
Do not forget to breathe in and out when you are in the final position. And be comfortable....

Advantages:

The first time I tried this position, I said wohh what a nice stretch on my back feels good .
It really works magic in removing the stiffness of our back, shoulders and the neck .
Works on the inner thighs, in a way reducing the fats around that area.
Lastly works on increasing the lung capacity and the depth of our breath with that extension of our lungs we breathe in extra in this position .

Effects on Chakra:

This asana works on the Muladhara Chakara or the Base Chakra.

Benefits of Massage at a cost of 30 cents /4 min a day !!

More and more Americans are currently having massages once a week , once a fortnight or even once a month.This love has been directly proportional to the stressful work they tend to work on.In today's post I would be writing about a completely different type of massage which requires not more than 5 min, cost factor is your time and may be 10 cent to 30 cent each day . Well the benefits are the same .... Ohh forgot to tell you , you yourself are doing it too ... so no therapist , no time scheduling nothing .

In Ayurveda one of the important routine of the day that one must do every day is called as Abyanga which means ...application of warm herbal oil all over the body . The oil is seasme seed normally unless you decided to choose some thing else . Do not need to keep the oil for long , as soon as you apply it you can go to shower and wash it off . If you have enough time sit in the bath for some time and enjoy the oil on the body

Why it's more advocated than even your regular massage here are the reaons :

1] Boost your immunity :

Swine flu /Avian flu / Mad cow diseases .. one by one different viral infection currently are been attacking the world and the best strategy that every individual should take is following the simple principle "Prevention is better than cure".Thus Boosting the immune system is the best way to handle during such epidemics . In my swine flu articles I have spoken on the same lines .
Sesame seed oil and applying it on your body would do this simple magic if you do it regularly .. boosting the immune system . Due to its action on the skin , then skin vulnerability to diseases especially air borne decreases .Not only that due to massage you are all ways making sure your blood flow is regular to every part of the body.In all you boost the immune process .

2] Reduce friction /lubrication :

We all know that when two particles are in motion with each other , they would create some friction ... forget the two particles we are saying of the whole body ... it has been in motion imagine the friction that would be created , knees cracking , dry skin .. all are the signs of friction. What do your say ? And if some thing crack , like door hinges , we put some lubricant jelly , then why do not we do that on our body .Thus this way of massage would work on decreasing the friction between each cells . No more cracks and crazy noises .

3] Wt Gain /Wt loss:

The magic of sesame seed oil which has been always known to Ayurveda is it nature to act as per as the user. Thus it can be used to help a person work on losing wt and also it can work in the same way to help a person gain wt if needed . It all depends on the activities and the food he takes . Nothing wrong in trying it if you goal recently has been in to wt loss and been working out crazy for losing some extra pounds .

Now you would ask whats store for just a regular person then .. well he/she can tone his muscles. To prevent one from facing those issues .. would it be not nice to work right from now .
Oil massage like this one works really magic in at least giving good quantity life ..even during old ages . Its the quality not the quantity that is important .. so as long as I have good health I would be happy .Long life and just visit to the hospitals would not appeal me at all . So to have both just put your 30 cents a day and 4 min ...

Snacks Not to Eat on Hot Summer Day's .





In the past few days I have noticed that many blogger giving us suggestion on what healthy snacks to eat during such crazy summer days. Well I was also one of those in which I did
write
about one article but as a guest post on my friends blog @Coolwired . This post was on what drinks one can have to quench their thirst during hot months . But what I found out recently that many blogs have been giving choices to munch which according to them are healthy , But do not go with the Ayurvedic or holistic lifestyle of eating . Neither does my common sense agree with the choices, forget the theory of Ayurveda here .

Here I have collected few items normally sa
id to be good as munchies , but not in this crazy warm season.

1] Eggs :


Please for god sake not eggs .. when I first read that,I was really not sure how to react . Now you would be wondering whats wrong in a egg as a good breakfast .. Well I have nothing against egg, actually I love eggs .. but still in summer months ..Eggs contain high amount of protein which we all know , they are also known for "usna virya"or heating in nature which meaning that after digestion of this , they would provide the body with heat. Simple common sense would tell us that we do not need those food groups which would increase body heat during summer time Right !! Also on a end note they also are low in water continent so what are your thoughts .

2] Almond and other Nuts:

Well certain foods just makes us more and more thirsty and the nut family comes in to that groups of food .Think about that and may be try it .. when we eat either peanut , cashew nut or almonds .. what happens .In few moments we feel our throat to be dry or a need to drink water a tremendous urge . So in summer when every one is already thirsty how can one eat those nuts as snacks .. Yes they are good source of protein and so and so .. so what ..
Lastly all the nuts family including almonds are also known as "usna virya" , heating as we discussed in regards to eggs . Does not fit in the order of nature properly what do you folks say here .

3] Frozen fruits :

I have read recently in one of the article to eat frozen berries during this hot summer season ..
H mm nice cooling ha an ... but friends why frozen berries . Summer the time when nature itself creates fresh nice different berries , strawberries , raspberry ,blueberry are currently abundant in Canada .Why to look towards frozen berries then ,I do not understand .
Another thought behind that suggestion is the thought that frozen food in general is such food that can decrease our appetite ,they have less prana or chi as some may say .
In summer already our appetite is low already because of heavy water consumption and then why to eat those food that would further deplete our hunger. Am I thinking right or is it just me .

4] White Bread :

Sandwich remains a very common snack.cum lunch for many individuals at least 5 days of a week. Due to its aroma bread do have a nice way to attract towards us and we do eat too ... What we do not know about bread especially white bread is that they have a nature to absorb a lot of water and thus makes us drink more and more water. Try it after a sandwich lunch , we tend to be more thirsty that unusual.Do not blame it for the weather folks .. Just try it and see.In summer yes we need to drink more water , but we do not need certain group of foods that would absorb and would need more water for them to digest them.So white bread and products made by white flour would be all that one should refrain from eating during summer time .

5] Salty food or snacks :

A huge number of our normal day to day snacks revolves around salt. Chips , popcorn , pizza bites , bacon and so and so ... .We tend to eat this more often when we are on vacations some times rather than when in our normal day to day life . Again we need to see how our body feels when we eat salty .. nice .. but again one tend to drink more water or tend to be more thirsty after eating salt .. and then we gulp down a glass of chill beer or pop ... Does not means that the water drunk helps in any way .. but of course .. when our body tries to loose a lot of sodium a small amount of salt from external world is good in diet . but not a lot in a way to make all our food completely full with sodium salt .. what do you think ..

Now I know what you are all thinking what are my choices to eat then in summer time ..Here is the list which Ayurveda would recommend in summer time for good health of all of us .
1] Fresh Fruits
2] Fresh vegetables like tomato's , salads, cucumber
3] Chicken , fish { not in excess at all}
4] Whole wheat bread , couscous , quinoa, kamut and other grains
5] Milk and milk products can be good snack too ..

I know its lot of against what you all are doing currently .Try it , experiment it , if you like it follow it.Do not follow blindly not even to what I say . Let me know .

Utthita Trikonasana


Triangle pose

After the forward bend I normally like to stretch some of my muscles more , and to achieve
this would love to do this position . A great stretch for sure has been one thing that I love but could
not hold it for a long time .This position is called as "Uttita Trikonasan" "Uttita" means extended and "trikonasan" means Triangle pose.

How to do it ?

1] Stand in Samasthi first ...
2] Keep your right foot on the side .Turn your rt foot 90 degree and then
3] Extend your arms and with a deep breathe ,bend your trunk towards the right side so that the rt arm can go behind your rt foot .
4] Your rt arms is behind your rt foot , left arm is straight in air , ,eyes looking towards your
left hand fingers which are pointing to the sky .
5] Breathe in and out ,if possible hold this position for some time
6] Slowly come back in extended arm position with an exhale and then do the same thing on
the opposite side .

Caution:

1]Make sure none of your knee bend in this position .
2] Keep your arms straight .. and a little bit stiff .. we should be in control of our body
so no loose left arm .
3] The eyes facing the left hand fingers makes your neck a little twisted .. again be careful
with that as if done in quickness can be troublesome.

Effects :

1] Toning the leg muscle .
2] Removes stiffness in legs , hips .
3] Relives backaches , neck sprain
4] For kids who do it in developing age helps them to develop chest , ankles , corrects any deformity in the legs too.

Chakra effect :

This asana works on the Muladhara Chakara or the Base Chakara .
